Turn on Email
A workspace admin turns on Email in Configuration → Features. Email needs the CRM. People with CRM access can use it. Sending a campaign needs the CRM bulk permission.
Verify your sending domain
Open Email → Email settings and enter your domain, for example yourcompany.com.
We show three DNS records. Add them at your DNS host, then select Check DNS now.
DNS changes can take a few hours. The status changes to Verified when all records are found.
Free email domains such as Gmail can't send for your business.
Add DMARC
Gmail and Yahoo expect businesses that send to many people to publish a DMARC record.
If your domain has none, Email settings shows the record to add: TXT, name _dmarc.yourcompany.com, value v=DMARC1; p=none;.
This value only monitors. Ask your IT person before you choose a stricter policy.
Add sender details
The names and addresses come from Brand configuration. Change them there, and every email uses the change.
- From name: one of your brand names.
- Campaign address: the part before the @, for example
news. - Reply-to address: one of your brand's addresses or a teammate's. Replies to campaigns go there.
- Postal address: one of your saved addresses (Legal or Locations). The law requires it in marketing email. It appears in every campaign footer.
To add an address, open Brand configuration and fill in Legal, or add a location in Locations.
Sent with Berchtold
Show "Sent with Berchtold" adds a small Berchtold badge under the footer of marketing email. Campaigns show it. One-to-one email never does.
Tracking and consent
Open and click tracking are on by default. Some email apps load images for privacy, so open counts are approximate.
Some places need people to opt in first, such as Canada and the EU. For them, turn on Require recorded consent. Then campaigns go only to people whose consent is on record.
Deliverability
Email settings shows your bounce rate and spam-report rate for the last 30 days, for each campaign and in total. Our email service pauses sending above 4% bounces or 0.08% spam reports. The page says Getting close at half of each limit, and Too high at the limit.
To keep the rates low:
- Send only to people who asked for your email.
- Remove addresses that bounce, and people who have not opened your email in a long time.
- Say who you are at the top, and keep the unsubscribe link easy to find.
Blocked addresses
Addresses that bounce or report spam are blocked automatically. You can block or unblock an address in Email settings.
