Lists and subscriptions

Create lists, link imported list names, and change a person's subscription with a reason.

Workspace settingAvailability is controlled by your workspace. Ask your administrator about access.

Create a list

Open Email → Lists and select New list. Give it a name and a short description. People see both in the email preference center.

Adding a contact to the CRM never subscribes them. An import can't grant consent or undo an unsubscribe.

Ask people to confirm (double opt-in)

In the list, turn on Ask new subscribers to confirm by email. Sign-ups from web forms and connected apps then get a confirmation email. They join the list after they select Confirm subscription. Until then their status is Waiting for confirmation. Changes that teammates make are not affected.

Web forms can sign people up too. Name the list in the Connect step Save lead to the Berchtold CRM.

Contacts from an import can carry list names, for example from ActiveCampaign. Imported list names shows each name and how many contacts have it. Link a name to a list, or create a list with that name. Each person keeps their status.

Change one person's subscription

Open the contact and find the Email section.

  • To subscribe someone, say how they agreed. For example: signed up at the open house.
  • To resubscribe someone who unsubscribed, also confirm that they asked for it.
  • Every change is kept in Subscription history, with who made it and how.

Subscribe many people at once

In Contacts, select people, then Bulk actions → Subscribe to a list. Choose the list and say how they agreed. The same reason is kept for each person. People who unsubscribed before are skipped. Only they can choose the list again.

The preference center

Each campaign ends with two links: Unsubscribe and Manage email preferences. On that page, people pick their lists or stop all marketing email. Just opening the page changes nothing.
