Add a relationship
Open a contact and find Relationships. Select Add relationship, then choose whether the related record is a Person or Account.
Choose a relationship and add a note if needed. It describes how the chosen person or account relates to this contact. For example, open Diana's record. Choose Jessica and Spouse to record Jessica as Diana's spouse.
Search for the existing record and select it to add the relationship. Create a missing person or account first so you can link to a real record.
Use and remove links
Select a related name to open its record. Relationships preserve a link to the person or account instead of storing only their name as text.
Remove a link if it is wrong or no longer needed. This removes the relationship only. It does not delete the linked person or account.
Choose relationships or custom fields
Use relationships for people and companies. Use custom fields for attributes such as a preferred area or timeline. A lender name in a text field is not a link to a lender's contact record.
